Friendship Donations Network
Mission Statement

FDN is a lifeline to 2200 persons - one-third are children. FDN volunteers rescue up to 700,000 lbs of mostly fresh perishable nutritious food valued at up to $1.5 million to $2 million per year from area food outlets and farms. This excess and day-old food would be wasted, dumped or plowed under if it was not picked up daily. 245 volunteers from 26 hunger programs donate time, energy, vehicles- to help alleviate hunger in our community. Two p/t employees, a director and coordinator, are paid. FDN is a non-profit 501c3 program (www.friendshipdonation.org)

FDN’s mission is to alleviate hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition through recovery of surplus and day old mostly fresh, nutritious food that would be wasted if not picked up daily (produce, breads, assorted dairy/deli, desserts); to redistribute this food through scheduled daily food pantries, community hot meals, non-profits, youth programs and “outreach” to low-wage work sites and rural poor; to reduce diabetes 2 and obesity- especially among children, through improved nutrition; to act as a “one-call” center for donors 24/7; to model a low-budget, mostly volunteer-run, fresh food rescue and distribution network; to support sustainability by reducing, recycling and reusing.
