Mission Statement

The mission of the Child Development Council is to promote the healthy development of children and families at home, in child care, and in the community, by:

  • providing resources, support services, information and referrals to parents, child care providers and the community;
  • advocating for the continuous improvement of healthy child development by means of legislative activism and community education;
  • providing pro-active leadership in the community with regard to matters concerning broad child development and child care issues, through inter-agency coordination, collaboration and planning, and by dissemination of public information;
  • providing services regardless of family composition, special needs, sexual orientation, religion, gender, race, age or financial considerations.

In promoting the healthy development of children and families, the various program activities of the agency are aimed at enhancing the quality of care that children receive and the environments in which they grow up, whether in home, child care, school or neighborhood settings.

Gifts
49A $5 purchases a book for young child age 0 to 8 years.
Books are distributed to parents, guardians and grandparents of vulnerable infants and toddlers and teenage moms and dads.  We read with them first, and then leave the book for them to keep.
49B $10 purchases health and safety items for low income families of infants and toddlers.
Low income families struggle to keep their homes safe for their children. Your gift will provide necessary items such as safety gates, outlet covers and cabinet locks, which would allow young children to explore their environment safely.
49C $15 purchases bus passes or gas cards for a rural mom and baby to the OBGYN or pediatrician’s office.
What difference can a ride make?  Families want to give their children the best start in life, but often lack the ability to do so.  A ride to preventative health care supports children at the earliest stages of growth and development -- benefits that will last a lifetime.
49D $20 purchases one in-home parenting session
When it comes to growing and changing infants and toddlers, the questions just can’t wait!  Parenting support provided in the home helps parents learn simple, free ways to support their child’s physical, social and emotional growth.
49X $ open A gift to promote the healthy development of children and families
Each year, the Child Development Council supports the healthy development of hundreds of young children at home, in child care and in the community.  We believe that a loving involved family, enriching early learning opportunities, preventative health care, sound nutrition and safe stimulating environments are critical to give our children the best possible start in life – benefits that last a lifetime.
